At St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute (St. Anna CCRI) in Vienna and in this PhD position you will become part of a young, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment bridging biology, data science, and clinical application.
Working with large and diverse datasets, you will explore novel ways of generating insights that translate into real-world impact. You will work with large-scale, multimodal datasets to uncover insights with real-world relevance and contribute to translational cancer research.

Data-driven research: Analyze diverse datasets (e.g. whole genome sequencing, targeted sequencing, high-throughput drug sensitivity screens) using established workflows and your own computational approaches.
Integrative modelling: Combine multiple data modalities to develop predictive models, including relapse risk prediction.
Independent research: Design and lead your own PhD project, contribute innovative ideas, and work with a high level of scientific integrity.
Scientific communication: Publish your findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at international conferences, and apply for fellowships.
Collaboration: Work closely with biologists, clinicians, and computational scientists in a highly interactive and multidisciplinary environment.
What you bring for this position:
Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, genetics, precision medicine)
Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, R, Bash) and solid statistical understanding
Background in molecular biology/genetics; ideally experience in cancer research
Strong problem-solving mindset and scientific curiosity
Proactive, reliable, and collaborative working style
Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken); German is not required
Ideally, you also bring:
Experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis or genome-wide assays
Familiarity with machine learning approaches in bioinformatics
